The internet has been part of our lives for more than 10 years. Time enough, you’d think, for someone to create a web-design package that wasn’t frustrating to use. All too often, though, web-design software feels arcane and impenetrable to all but the initiated. We’ve chosen six programs; some have been designed specifically for beginners, while others are aimed at those with a little more experience.

When you can create web pages using HTML and cascading style sheets (CSS), you ‘ll usually start with a blank page, but most web-design software lets you modify a pre-defined template. Alternatively, it may present you with a blank page and some drawing tools for creating a page graphically.
